Taxpayers waste millions of dollars each year on lawyers, police officer, and court personnel sorting through overcrowded District Court criminal misdemeanor dockets. Efforts are being made to find ways to reduce this unnecessary expense. Judge Steven Bryant of the 30th Prosecutorial District in western North Carolina is cited as a positive example of cost savings by implementing a website allowing for more efficient use of court time.
