Haywood County Verdict for Sexual Abuse Victim |

Mark R. Melrose recently won a $179,000.00 verdict against a man who had sexually molested a young family member. This includes $100,000.00 in punitive damages against the Defendant. The purpose of punitive damages is to make an example of the Defendant, to punish him financially, and to deter him and others from this type of reprehensible conduct. Our law firm is taking more of these cases to allow victims of abuse to seek damages for the harms and losses caused by sexual offenders to their innocent victims.

Crime Victims Have Right to Sue |

Victims of serious crimes such as rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, drunk driving, and murder may not see the criminal perpetrators get the punishment they deserve. What many people don't realize is that the victim has the right to file a lawsuit against the Defendant in civil court to recover for all their harms, losses, and damages. These include medical expenses, lost income, scars & disfigurement, permanent injury, pain, and suffering. One limitation on these cases is that most insurance policies exclude coverage for intentional wrongdoing. We look for others that might also be responsible such as the bartender who served the drinks, employers, and co-defendants. We also investigate to see if the offender has assets that can be seized to pay the judgment.
