Traffic Offense FAQs

Melrose, Seago & Lay routinely represents individuals charged with traffic violations in Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Cherokee, Clay and Graham Counties. Each year, our attorneys appear in court on behalf of hundreds of clients charged with minor traffic tickets. By doing this, we are able to save our clients countless dollars in higher insurance premiums, time off from work and gas costs for travel to and from court. Below are some of the commonly asked questions from clients dealing with traffic violations.

How much do you charge?
We provide an EXACT quote over the phone that will include all potential court cost, fines and attorney fees. For your convenience, we accept Visa and MasterCard. We also offer a $25 discount if you mention this website.

Will I know what will happen with my ticket before an attorney goes to court?
Attorneys are not ethically permitted to offer specific guarantees. However, we can tell you what we anticipate will happen based on our experience of handling similar situations. If we have unexpected difficulty, then we will simply continue the case on your behalf, so that we can discuss further options.

Do I have to appear in Court if I hire an attorney from Melrose, Seago & Lay?
In most cases, no, you do not have to appear in court if you have an attorney representing you. If you hire an attorney and sign a waiver, then an attorney from our office will go to court and act on your behalf. We will not plead your case to something other than discussed without your approval.

Should I hire an attorney from Melrose, Seago & Lay to represent me on my traffic ticket?
Absolutely, if retained, an attorney will personally evaluate your situation and determine what the best course of action is in YOUR case. We take into consideration all relevant factors such as driving record, effects on your insurance and the circumstances surrounding your ticket. Once equipped with this information, we then will go to court and attempt to achieve the best possible result for you.
