Nathan J. Earwood, a native of Western North Carolina, joined the Melrose, Seago & Lay staff in 2003. After earning a Bachelor's Degree from Western Carolina University, he went on to study law at Regent University School of Law, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. During his time in law school, Nathan interned with a District Attorneys' office as well as a variety of private firms in the Norfolk and Chesapeake area. He now focuses his practice exclusively on representing those accused of committing criminal offenses. He accepts all types of criminal and traffic cases and has represented clients charged with offenses ranging from Capital Murder to minor traffic tickets. Nathan also accepts cases involving appeals and Motions for Appropriate Relief. He routinely accepts cases in all counties in W.N.C. He has focused virtually all of his continuing education efforts towards the study of up-to-date Driving While Impaired and Criminal Defense Trial issues and techniques. Mr. Earwood takes a particular interest in cases involving students at W.C.U. and surrounding universities. He routinely represents students facing university sanctions as well as criminal sanctions. Mr. Earwood's goal is to provide each client with individual attention in a friendly and professional manner. He is dedicated to zealously representing the rights of his clients.
Nathan was honored to be named as a Partner to the Melrose, Seago & Lay law firm in 2007. He is active in his community and church and is a member of numerous legal organizations, including Young Trial Lawyers of America, the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Earwood serves on multiple non-profit advisory boards, including the Salvation Army, Rotary International and the Criminal Justice Partnership Committee. Nathan resides in Waynesville with his wife, The Honorable Judge Kristina Earwood, and their two young children.
